Michael Owen Bargain Of Season?

After his last minute winner against Manchester City, Michael Owen could truly become the bargain of the season if the Red Devils go on to successfully defend their title. Signed for free by Sir Alex Ferguson after struggling to find a new club, the former England striker still had a lot to prove to his critics and even the Manchester United fans who would not forget his past with Liverpool. While Owen starred during the club's preseason tour, he again found the going tough when the season proper started. SAF also gave him a place on the bench instead of starting him, and this was not out of the ordinary considering that Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov were always going to be ahead in the pecking order given their stature in the manager's eyes. But Owen was not complaining and bided his time. It finally came in the Manchester derby where he finally announced his arrival as the new idol of Old Trafford, scoring the winner against Manchester City in the 6th minute of injury time when the scores were deadlocked at 3-3. One trap of the ball, and then a shot into the far bottom corner was all it took to pay off a huge slice of his (non-existent) transfer fee.
