Carlos Tevez - Building New Legacy At Man City

Given a starting role at Manchester City, Carlos Tevez appears a man on a desperate mission to prove to everyone that he can be a player that Manchester United would be sorry to have let go. As one of the most expensive football transfers to have occurred in the Premiership the past summer, Tevez is trying to pay off his new club in spades. That was apparent against West Ham. While Martin Petrov might have hogged the headlines with his starring role on the wings, Tevez got on the scoresheet twice - not something he achieved much at United. But he has had some injury problems since arriving at City, and it will be some time yet before his value can be determined. Scoring twice last night was a good start, and Tevez will need to score much more than he did at Old Trafford. His work rate can never be questioned, but too often strikers are judged purely on their frequency of appearing on the scoresheet and not what they do off the ball - which is only something that coaches do. There is no doubt that the Argentinian international is doing his bit to bring his new club to the position they are in currently, but the final verdict will only be made when the season ends and the kind of trophies that Manchester City might collect in the months ahead.

Darren Bent - New Lease Of Life At Sunderland

It has been a strange career for Darren Bent. After landing himself a big transfer to Spurs, the world was at the striker's feet and a potential England squad place looked inevitable, especially since he continued to score at White Hart Lane. But somehow, Bent was never fancied by Harry Redknapp and after a season to forget since the ex-Portsmouth manager went to Spurs, he grabbed his chance to move to Sunderland when Steve Bruce came a-calling. It was to spark a fantastic goalscoring run that appears not to stop with his latest two goals against Wolves last night at the Stadium of Light. The first was a dodgy penalty that was awarded against some strong evidence that it should not have been, but Bent put it away calmly to give his side the lead. Bent then won a second penalty that Kenwyne Jones converted for the side's two goal lead soon after halftime. While that quickly whittled away under some Wolves persistence, Bent then finally added the gloss to the night for the Sunderland strikers when he added the side's 5th and his second goal on the night near the end off a lucky deflection off the unfortunate Michael Mancienne. Perhaps this would lead England manager Fabio Capello to not rule him out for a place in his squad and with his work rate much higher than that of Michael Owen's, he could be ahead of the queue.

Catch up on some of the highlights of what was an exciting game between Sunderland and Wolves that showcased Darren Bent's clinical finishing:

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Proving His Worth

Despite constant criticism that he never shows up in the big games, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is showing that he is still worth the money at Barcelona. In last night's game against Malaga, even though the opposing team were not one of the best in the La Liga, the Swedish international striker extended his record to being Barcelona first player to score a goal in all the first five matches of the champions' league season. It is a fantastic achievement for a player that many Barca fans felt would never be able to replace their beloved ex-striker Samuel Eto'o, whom Ibrahimovic replaced as the Cameroonian moved in the opposite direction to Inter Milan. But Ibrahimovic is proving his worth and the great thing about him is that he is able to create goals for other players too, having a great touch (see his control of the pass from Messi on his chest and then flicking the ball in the net against Malaga) and a clever footballing mind. It is probably these abilities that is keeping Barca coach Pep Guardiola from turning his hair to all white (amazing it's still jet black at the moment, although his beard is graying). Perhaps when the next Classico comes between Barcelona and Real Madrid, the comparisons will not be between Messi and Ronaldo, but Ibrahimovic and Ronaldo. And that would help take some pressure off Messi too.

Michael Owen Bargain Of Season?

After his last minute winner against Manchester City, Michael Owen could truly become the bargain of the season if the Red Devils go on to successfully defend their title. Signed for free by Sir Alex Ferguson after struggling to find a new club, the former England striker still had a lot to prove to his critics and even the Manchester United fans who would not forget his past with Liverpool. While Owen starred during the club's preseason tour, he again found the going tough when the season proper started. SAF also gave him a place on the bench instead of starting him, and this was not out of the ordinary considering that Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov were always going to be ahead in the pecking order given their stature in the manager's eyes. But Owen was not complaining and bided his time. It finally came in the Manchester derby where he finally announced his arrival as the new idol of Old Trafford, scoring the winner against Manchester City in the 6th minute of injury time when the scores were deadlocked at 3-3. One trap of the ball, and then a shot into the far bottom corner was all it took to pay off a huge slice of his (non-existent) transfer fee.
